High Triglycerides & Diabetes

Don't let diabetes lead to heart problems.

Lend a hand to help us research a potential medication that might prevent them.

The PROMINENT Study is researching a potential new medication (study drug) for people with type 2 diabetes and elevated triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) to see if it can help prevent heart attacks and other heart-related problems. The study will also look at how safe the study drug is, and how it affects the level of triglycerides in the blood.

You may be able to take part if you:

  • have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes for 12 weeks or longer
  • are a woman 55 years of age or more, a man 50 years of age or more, or are 18 years of age or more with systemic atherosclerosis (also called artery disease, which is a hardening or narrowing of the arteries)
  • have been told you have moderately high triglyceride levels. Please ask your doctor if you are not sure.

The study will involve approximately 10,000 participants from around the world and will last for about 5 years. All study-related care will be provided at no cost to you.

NASH Research Study

We are conducting a new research study for individuals who have Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH). Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease describes a range of conditions caused by a build-up of fat within the liver. In some instances, this excess fat can lead to inflammation of the liver, otherwise known as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (or NASH). If this inflammation gets worse, it can lead to severe liver damage, and the function of the liver can be disrupted. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of an investigational medication and any effect on ALT liver enzymes.
Volunteers may qualify if they:
* Are 18 to 75 years old
* Have the potential to have NASH based on having type II diabetes or pre-diabetes
* Have had a liver biopsy in the past 2 years confirming NASH
There are additional criteria to meet to qualify for this study. Volunteers who qualify for our study will receive study related medication and medical exams at no cost, as well as reimbursement for time and travel. No health insurance is required to participate.
